Around fifty cars have been marked with what seems to be blood from a person in the Germany's town of Hanau near Frankfurt, police confirm police.
Automobiles, walls and postboxes were marked, in some cases with Nazi symbols, they reported in a official communication.
Police state they were contacted late on Wednesday, when a man noticed that a automobile in the Lamboy area of Hanau had been marked with a reddish liquid.
The fluid had been drawn in the pattern of a banned symbol, they reported.
Officers then discovered many other marked vehicles and building exteriors in the adjacent neighborhood.
Swastikas are banned in Germany under regulations prohibiting the visible presentation of Nazi symbols.
Police say initial examinations show the fluid was probably human blood.
"Currently there is no clue as to its origin; officials are currently not informed of any physical harm in connection with the incident," they stated.
City officials said they were working "to resolve the incident" and have appealed to the residents for tips.
An important official stated the vandalism left him stunned and needed to be solved quickly.
"This event affects the very heart of Hanau and revives the trauma of the far-right terrorist attack five years ago," he wrote on online, recalling the murder of nine victims by a assailant aiming at people of immigrant origin in five years prior.
